Wellies & Wristbands

Probably my favourite non-Brownie event I attended – Wellies & Wristbands 2015.

I went along as a volunteer, within the activities team. There were on site accommodation options but I stayed in the volunteer camp and used the weekend as part of my Outdoors Look Wider challenge.

Over the weekend I helped out with setting up, meet-and-greet, hot tubs, cinema (and set off the fire alarm working the candy floss machine!), inflatables, and shop. Plus in my down time visited the craft tent and had afternoon tea, and watched the live music of course!

This is such a special event, and what Girlguiding is all about.

Free Being Me

When I have time, I’ll make a series of these to illustrate my favourite moments and achievements over my 12 years as a Girlguiding leader.

First up, running the Free Being Me programme as a Peer Educator.

I was late to training for this, I was 23 / 24 but I was looking for a new challenge and I wanted to learn a new skill. All Peer Educators train over a weekend in the programme, leadership skills, safeguarding, running difficult conversations and more.

Once trained, you organise with local leaders to visit their unit over 2 weeks to run the programme on body confidence with their Brownies or Guides, I was attended my own group too, so was Guiding 2 nights a week after work.

I loved the programme, and it completely helped my own body confidence. The programme really hits with some kids too, one of mine wrote a poem about it and another stuck a post-it saying ‘I am beautiful’ to her mirror at home.

Meeting new groups, leading sessions for strangers, being confident and knowledgeable in a subject – this all lead to me being far more confident.

Girlguiding in Animal Crossing

When Animal Crossing came out I played it daily, I don’t know if I would’ve picked it up if it weren’t for lockdown. I loved New Leaf on my 3DS, but with a baby on the way I didn’t think I’d have time.

I’m so glad that I had time to play it as I loved the new island, but since my baby was born I have turned it on once!

Anyhow, this is me with my villagers. The only one I amiboo’d in was my bestie Hamphrey, though I did try hard to find him in game!

Girlguiding Images

I post these images to Instagram, and realise that some of the longer images get missed (not the best at posting this stuff!). It made me think little square images showing what the Girlguiding groups are might be useful. Plus this was fun to put together šŸ˜€

Girlguiding Member Illustrations

When I first started drawing Girlguiding members I had this image in my head of showing them like magical girls, the anime trope of girls with special powers (which all Girlguiding members are!).

This led me to make this picture, I liked the floaty look of the characters.

If you find use in this drawing within your own resources please feel free to use it ā€“ Iā€™d love to hear what you use it for!
